Six new works, four new languages
Weft now holds fifty-seven works in twenty-four languages. New this week:
- The Secret History of the Mongols, sections 1-10, from the wolf and the doe to Alan Qo’a’s sons. The text is the Ming transcription in Chinese characters, with the Ming editors’ own word-by-word glosses. Middle Mongolian.
- The calling of the Varangians, the Rus’ Primary Chronicle for 859-862. Old East Slavic.
- The Gospel of Mark 1:1-20 in Sahidic Coptic, with Horner’s 1911 translation from the Coptic.
- The Kites and the Crows, a Swahili tale Edward Steere printed in Zanzibar in 1870.
- The General Act of the Berlin Conference, 1885: the preamble, free trade in the Congo basin, and the articles on effective occupation. The sound layer is new: French as an educated Parisian read a formal text aloud in the 1880s, after Passy and Littré.
- Two charters of Saer de Quincy, earl of Winchester, in English Latin of the early thirteenth century.
Every page now has a link card, so a shared link shows the text itself.
